Dress Code Infraction Policy:
The first 2 times - Two parents will speak with the teen and the parent if available. The teen may choose to change clothes to remedy the situation (H-Town Squares T-shirts and square dance skirt available, or they may change at home and return), rather than leave the dance. If a parent is not available, they will be contacted in a follow-up phone call before the next dance.
The third and following times - Two parents will speak with the teen and parent if available. The teen will be asked to go home. If a parent is not available, they will be contacted in a follow-up phone call before the next dance.
COMMITMENT TO PARTICIPATE
Lessons progress through a series of complicated steps that follow a standard curriculum. The 68 calls learned are typically taught over the course of one year. H-Town Squares progresses through an accelerated program to accommodate a young adult’s desire to be challenged and to avoid the conflicts a year-long program would include. This quick-paced instruction allows us to offer a complete course in a short amount of time. Yet, the advancement of the entire square depends upon individual members being present and prepared. For this reason, once a commitment has been made, you must make every effort to attend each lesson.
When a lesson is missed due to travel, sickness, etc., it is important for the student to watch the online videos that are recommended, so they can practice at home. “Angels” - students who have already graduated from square dance lessons - will be available to help.
Pertaining to any dance (lessons or regular), H-Town Squares' policy is that once a student (younger than 18) exits the building, there is no re-entry. This is due to safety and liability. If an exception needs to be made, it is important to speak with a H-Town Squares board member. Also, participation includes being available to dance. If a club member is in the bathroom to avoid dancing, they may be asked to leave the dance. However, if a club member is not feeling well, they may speak to a board member or parent volunteer who is present at the dance and may be allowed to sit out part of the dance, sitting in the foyer or in the gymnasium.
COMMITMENT TO RESPECT FACILITY POLICIES
In order to respectfully use the facility that we rent, we agree not to go in parts of the building where we are not allowed. Parent volunteers are allowed to use the kitchen. Teens are allowed in the kitchen only if permission is given by a parent volunteer or board member for a specific task.
Teens are not allowed anywhere in the building except the check-in foyer, the gymnasium and bathrooms. They are not allowed inside rooms, the kitchen, upstairs or down the hallway past the bathrooms. Teens who go outside of the allowed spaces may be asked to leave the dance.
PARENT COMMITMENT
Our vision is to provide a fun, Christian, "high-energy" activity for homeschoolers, their friends, and families. As a H-Town Squares parent, you are committing to make our H-Town Squares a great place to be. One way to do so is to volunteer at dances.
Encourage your teen square dancer! As members of the club, teens are expected to fully participate and dance every tip. Encourage them to meet new members and dance with different dance partners throughout the evening, not only their friends. Ask your teen how learning the dance calls is going. If they need help, they can come early to a dance or lesson and ask our student officers and other “angels” (members that have graduated from mainstream lessons) to practice before the activity begins.
Consider taking lessons - parent couples can take lessons, too!
Adults may participate in the dance if they are partnered with their spouse, and occasionally with their teen son or daughter. Teens should regularly partner with other teen club members.
Adults may also participate if they are partnered with adults from other square dance clubs.
As we take the safety of our teens very seriously, we appreciate the help from our parents as volunteers and as dancers. We think that all the parents in the club are responsible to help make H-Town Squares a safe and enjoyable place for all our families.
